Abstract

This study investigated grade inflation in Turkish teacher training programs between 2003 and 2022. Analyzing data from 173,232 student-teachers, the study found a significant increase in grade point averages (GPAs), particularly in 2012 (following capacity expansion) and 2021-2022 (during the COVID-19 pandemic). Factors influencing GPAs included student gender, university admission scores, teaching field, program establishment year, and student-faculty ratio. The findings suggest that rapid program expansion may have negatively impacted educational quality, leading to grade inflation.
