Preventive effect of ramelteon on emergence agitation after general anaesthesia in paediatric patients undergoing tonsillectomy: a randomised, placebo-controlled clinical trial

Abstract

This randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial investigated the preventive effect of ramelteon on emergence agitation after general anesthesia in children undergoing tonsillectomy. Fifty patients were enrolled, with 48 analyzed. There was no significant difference in emergence agitation incidence (76.6% in both groups) or secondary outcomes between the ramelteon (0.1 mg·kg⁻¹) and placebo groups. The study concludes that this dose of ramelteon does not prevent emergence agitation in this population.
