This study investigates factors influencing villagers’ willingness to participate in grassroots governance in China. Using data from the 2019 Chinese Social Survey (7031 responses), it finds that political efficacy positively correlates with participation, moderated by satisfaction with government performance and perceived social justice. Higher social justice perception strengthens the interaction between political efficacy and government performance satisfaction in predicting participation willingness.
