This paper investigates the relationship between social trust, social capital, and subjective well-being (SWB) of rural residents in China. Using data from the Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) from 2012, 2013, and 2015, the study finds that social trust positively affects the happiness of rural residents and their social capital. Social capital plays a mediating role in the relationship between trust and happiness, particularly for those over 30 and living in high-market competition areas. The findings suggest that enhancing social networks and social support can improve life satisfaction among rural Chinese.
