Abstract
This study quantifies the combined health effects of extreme temperatures and the COVID-19 pandemic in England and Wales (2020-2022). It found that temperature-related mortality significantly exceeded COVID-19 mortality in some regions, particularly during heatwaves. The combined impact of extreme temperatures and COVID-19 resulted in substantially higher excess deaths compared to the previous decade, highlighting the need for preparedness for compound health crises.
