Abstract
This paper introduces a whole learning process-oriented formative assessment framework designed to cultivate complex skills, particularly in vocational training. Addressing the lack of formative assessment during complex skill learning, the framework was tested in a controlled experiment with industrial robotics students. Results show that the framework effectively promotes learning of conceptual knowledge, schema construction and automation, and improves competency in implementation and transfer of complex skills without increasing cognitive load.
