This study analyzes the discursive representation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT in UK news media headlines from January to May 2023. Using inductive thematic analysis informed by Agenda-Setting and Framing theories, the analysis of 671 headlines reveals a complex portrayal of AI, oscillating between promising potential and warnings of systemic dangers. Media representations often sensationalize AI, focusing more on warnings than positive applications. The findings highlight the media's role in shaping public perception of AI and suggest implications for policymakers, AI developers, and educators.
