This study uses a variational pragmatic approach to compare how suggestions are expressed in two Arabic dialects: Alexandrian (Egypt) and Najdi (Saudi Arabia). Data from 240 participants (120 from each dialect group, evenly split by gender) were collected using a discourse completion task (DCT) with six scenarios. The data were coded using a known taxonomy of suggestion strategies, considering external and internal modifiers. Results showed a general preference for direct suggestions, with Najdis using significantly more direct strategies than Alexandrians, who favored conventionalized strategies. Gender, social distance, and social dominance also significantly influenced suggestion strategies in both dialect groups.
