Abstract
This study investigates the dynamic relationship between enjoyment and anxiety in monologue communication tasks performed by Arab female EFL undergraduate students using the idiodynamic approach. Participants rated their emotions per second after watching video recordings of their performances and were interviewed about emotional fluctuations. Results showed a negative relationship between anxiety and enjoyment, varying in strength across participants and speech segments. Four factors influencing emotions were identified: task execution, task layout, cognitive-linguistic factors, and performance measure.
