Abstract
This research explores the impact of youth relocation and career choices on the declining agricultural workforce in Hokkaido, Japan. Surveys of farming corporations, interviews with farmers, and questionnaires administered to high school students in Sapporo revealed a significant preference among youth for science and technology careers in urban areas. This trend, coupled with inadequate career counseling, contributes to the aging farming population and potential threats to Japan's food security. The study suggests the need for more detailed career guidance and increased investment in agricultural vocational institutes to address this critical issue.
