Abstract
This observational study investigated the prevalence and risk factors of malnutrition in diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) patients and its association with prolonged length of stay (LOS). Using the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria, malnutrition was identified in 38.36% of 219 DFU patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed BMI, serum albumin (Alb), HbA1c, ulcer infection, LOS, and ankle-brachial index (ABI) as independent risk factors for malnutrition. Malnourished patients had a 2.857 times higher likelihood of prolonged LOS (P=0.001). The study highlights the high prevalence of malnutrition in DFU patients and its strong association with prolonged hospitalization, emphasizing the importance of implementing GLIM criteria for early diagnosis and intervention.
