Abstract

This paper examines the Natural History Revival Movement (NHRM) in China and its philosophical and social implications for achieving ecological civilization (EC). The NHRM, drawing on European influences but rooted in distinct Chinese contexts, promotes naturalist studies and environmental monitoring as alternatives to the government's science-based approach to EC. The authors use hermeneutic analysis of snowball-sampled sources to explore the movement's philosophy and social significance.
