Abstract
This study uses a meta-discursive approach to examine Chinese satire's generic features and the motivations behind its use on social media. Analyzing scripts from 33 stand-up comedians, it integrates computer-aided topic modeling, discursive historical analysis, and semi-structured interviews. Findings reveal that most satire focuses on micropolitical issues (gender norms, family relationships, work conflicts), stemming from satirists' aversion to hypocrisy, past trauma release, and moral performance. This reflects an adaptive agency, where satirists adapt to rules while subtly reshaping norms.
