Abstract
This study argues for a new scientific logic of routine animal health care in European industrial farming. It contends that the current research and development (R&D) on chronic animal disease management (CADM) is hindered by a productivist model prioritizing growth and profit over animal and public health. Using documentary analysis and qualitative interviews across broiler, cattle, and pig sectors, the study reveals that CADM R&D focuses on economic concerns rather than the interconnectedness between animal, human, and environmental health (One Health approach). The study highlights the need to expand One Health to encompass chronic animal health conditions, emphasizing the importance of animal well-being for broader public health.
