Abstract
This case study examines the challenges in providing religious education (RE) for all religions in Indonesia in diverse settings. Challenges to RE equality include inter-religious competence and tolerance, explored through the perspectives of multireligious teachers and students in public schools. The study reveals barriers such as minimum student numbers, lack of human resources, limited budgets, and area conditions, influencing tolerance in RE inequality. The acceptance of these conditions by Muslim and non-Muslim teachers and students fosters a peaceful learning environment, representing tolerance in a multireligious society. The study suggests that interreligious competence increases religious inherency.
