Abstract
This study examines the strategies used in subtitling Egyptian idioms into English on Netflix, using a corpus of two Egyptian movies, "The Great Chinese Beans" and "The Humans and the Mongoose." The analysis, based on Baker's taxonomy of translation strategies, reveals that cultural substitution is the predominant strategy, while literal translation and mistranslation are also present. These findings highlight the challenges posed by cultural and linguistic nuances in subtitling and their implications for translation practitioners and scholars.
