Abstract
This paper quantitatively analyzes the spatial extent of the food provisioning area for consumers of different socio-economic statuses in Kampala, Uganda. Using a primary dataset from household and food vendor surveys, the study maps the foodshed by tracing where consumers obtain food and its origin. Results show that 50% of Kampala's food originates within 120 km, with 10% from within the city. Urban agriculture is twice as important as international imports. High-income residents have a more local foodshed due to urban agriculture participation, while low-income newcomers rely on retailers sourcing food from rural Uganda.
