Abstract
This article examines fishing in the city for food (FCF) as a crucial aspect of urban ecology and how city dwellers interact with and depend on urban blue spaces. A literature review reveals that FCF is surprisingly understudied and its significance for sustainable urban planning is often overlooked. Using a literature review, a survey of FCF in European capitals, and examples from Stockholm, the authors demonstrate how FCF highlights questions of access to water and food, human health, animal welfare, and urban aquatic biodiversity.
