Abstract

This study investigates the effects of internet access and use on the technical efficiency (TE) of grain farmers in Central China. Using data from 855 farmers and employing endogenous switching regression models, the study finds that using the internet for farming-related information significantly improves TE, while internet access alone does not guarantee TE improvement. Using the internet for non-farming purposes may even hinder TE improvement. The internet also helps reduce TE discrepancies among farmers.
