Abstract
This longitudinal study examined the association between extracurricular music and visual arts activities and academic performance in 488 seventh-grade Japanese children over two years. Structural equation modeling revealed a positive association between participation in these extracurricular activities and improvements in general academic performance, mediated by improvements in music and visual arts scores. The findings suggest a contribution of arts education to academic success, but the correlational nature of the study necessitates further research to establish causality.
