Abstract

This study investigated Muay Thai participants' attitudes towards mouthguards and their experiences with dental trauma. A cross-sectional online survey of 92 Muay Thai participants from a gym in northeast England revealed that 61% routinely wore mouthguards during fights, with younger participants (18-29 years) significantly more likely to do so than older participants. Mouth-formed mouthguards were most common. 14% of respondents had experienced dental injuries, primarily chipped or broken teeth. The study highlights the need for promoting mouthguard use, especially among those who don't routinely wear them.
