Abstract
This study explored the interplay between language mindsets, self-efficacy, engagement, and perceived proficiency (PP) in L2 learning. 257 Korean university students completed questionnaires. Path analysis revealed that a growth mindset predicted self-efficacy and engagement, but not PP directly. Self-efficacy fully mediated the growth mindset-PP relationship. The study highlights the importance of a growth mindset in initiating L2 learning and the mediating role of self-efficacy.
