Abstract
This study investigated the impact of social environment on wild-type (WT) and Shank3 knockout (KO) mice, a model of autism. Chronic social isolation enhanced social interaction and olfactory neuron responses in WT mice and restored impairments in Shank3 KO mice. Enriched social environments differently affected WT and Shank3 KO mice. Findings suggest potential for behavioral interventions and inclusive classroom programs for children with ASD.
