This study investigates the existence of translation universals at the syntactic-semantic level using semantic role labeling and textual entailment analysis on English-Chinese translations. By comparing Chinese translations with English source texts and non-translated Chinese originals, the researchers found evidence for explicitation, simplification, and leveling-out at the syntactic-semantic level. These findings highlight the unique characteristics of translated texts, shaped by the interplay of source and target language systems, and potentially influenced by socio-cultural factors.
