Abstract
This paper analyzes how the "new" emerges in academic organizations, focusing on the interplay between excellence and gender equality initiatives in Germany. Using Foucault's dispositive methodology, the authors investigate two institutional innovations: the Excellence Initiative and gender equality programs. Through website analysis and interviews, they explore the discursive connections between gender and excellence for early-career researchers and identify various discursive organizational strategies, revealing how these innovations either produce equality or perpetuate inequalities.
