Abstract
This study investigates the intersectional relationship between gender, disability, and energy poverty in South Africa. It utilizes the General Household Survey and finds that while females are less likely to be energy poor, the intersection of female and disability significantly increases their risk (by 2.6%). Life dissatisfaction and food insecurity mediate this effect. Targeted energy subsidies are most effective for females with disabilities, highlighting the need for tailored interventions.
