Abstract
This study investigated post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) using electronic health record data from 63,675 patients. A case-control design and phenome-wide association studies characterized PASC-associated diagnoses across pre-, acute-, and post-COVID-19 periods. Phenotype risk scores (PheRSs) were developed and evaluated for predictive performance. Results showed enrichment of known PASC symptoms and other disorders in the post-COVID-19 period. Pre- and acute-COVID-19 PheRSs effectively stratified risk, identifying a subset with a 3.5-fold increased PASC risk. The study highlights the complex interplay of predisposing and presenting features in PASC, suggesting potential for risk stratification.
