Abstract
This paper investigates the potential of clean hydrogen to mitigate emissions in China's hard-to-abate (HTA) sectors—heavy industry and heavy-duty transport. Using integrated dynamic least-cost modeling, the study finds that clean hydrogen can significantly reduce emissions in these sectors, potentially avoiding trillions of dollars in new investment compared to a no-hydrogen scenario. The findings highlight the value of clean hydrogen for China and other countries facing similar decarbonization challenges.
