Abstract
This paper presents a new synergistic and integrated utilization scheme (URIRP) for low-carbon recycling of urban and rural organic waste (UROSW) in China. Through life cycle assessment of organic waste data from 34 provincial-level regions, URIRP, primarily producing organic fertilizer and biochar, reduced annual life cycle carbon emissions from 6.9 Mt CO₂e to 2.83 Mt CO₂e. This reduction offsets 6% of electricity sector emissions via carbon sequestration and fossil fuel displacement. URIRP also promotes nutrient recycling, reduces air pollutants, increases topsoil organic matter, and improves economic efficiency.
