Abstract
Exposure to microgravity affects human physiology, and astronauts frequently report skin problems. This study used a 3D clinostat to simulate microgravity and investigate skin changes in a 3D in vitro setting. Under simulated microgravity, endothelial cell arrangement thickness increased (indicating skin irritation), while keratinocyte and fibroblast co-cultured spheroid diameter decreased (skin thinning). Collagen type I α1 chain was upregulated, connective tissue growth factor downregulated, and cytokeratin-10 expression significantly increased. The clinostat-based system effectively reproduced microgravity-induced skin changes.
