This study examines the evolution of Yugoslav science during the Cold War, focusing on the impact of its geopolitical shift from alignment with the Soviet Union to a Western orientation. The study contrasts the initial emulation of Soviet ideology emphasizing "partisanship" in science with the subsequent adoption of elements associated with a view of science as autonomous and apolitical. By analyzing changes in scientific organization, financing, and discourse, the study reveals how Yugoslavia's socio-economic transition under Socialist Self-Management influenced the nature and role of science within the broader context of the Cold War's ideological struggle.
