Abstract
This study investigates the employment advantage of overseas returnees over domestic graduates in securing academic faculty positions at prestigious Chinese universities. Using propensity score matching on ~90,000 faculty resumes, the study finds that overseas returnees are more likely to be employed by higher-ranking universities. This advantage varies among faculties with different undergraduate backgrounds and changes over time, with the latest trend showing the most significant advantage for those who attended Project 985 universities for their undergraduate studies and studied abroad for their doctoral degrees.
