Abstract
This study analyzed the risk of returning to poverty for low-income households in Hubei Province, China, during the COVID-19 lockdown. Using data on 78,931 government-identified poor households and analyzing three lockdown scenarios (1, 2, and 3 months), the study found that the percentage of households at high risk of returning to poverty increased significantly (from 5.6% to 22% with a 3-month lockdown). High-risk households tended to have single income sources, shorter working hours, and more family members. Towns near railway stations showed a higher risk of returning to poverty.
