Abstract
This study investigated the variation in fitted filtration efficiency (FFE) of four disposable face masks (N95, KN95, surgical, KF94) among 100 healthy adults (50% female, 50% male). Males exhibited 11% higher average FFE than females for KN95, surgical, and KF94 masks at baseline. A simple ear loop clip modification significantly increased FFE for females (20% on average), but only slightly for males (6% on average). These findings highlight sex as a major determinant of FFE and suggest that simple modifications can improve mask efficacy, particularly for women.
