Abstract
This paper investigates the impact of touristification on retail diversity in urban areas, using Hong Kong as a case study. It argues that touristification leads to a shift in retail landscapes, replacing local businesses with tourist-oriented establishments. The authors utilize a species-area relationship (SAR) framework to analyze this phenomenon, drawing parallels between ecological succession and the transformation of retail environments. Using DBSCAN clustering, they identify distinct retail clusters and analyze their spatial distribution. The findings highlight the homogenization of retail offerings and the marginalization of local businesses due to touristification.
