Abstract
This article investigates whether the growing support for a wellbeing economy (WE) represents a breakthrough for post-growth environmental approaches. The author examines case studies of countries participating in the Wellbeing Economy Governments (WEGo) initiative, analyzing government documents and other sources to determine their post-growth orientation. While finding limited post-growth steps in most WEGo nations, characterized as a "weak post-growth approach," the study reveals greater variation than previously thought. Wales stands out for its significant sufficiency-oriented policies, including limits on road building, despite a continued commitment to economic growth. The article concludes by suggesting options for strengthening the WE's post-growth character.
