Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between the joint use of different intellectual property rights (IPRs) and firm performance in China. Using a large dataset merging firm-level information with IPR filing data, the study finds that the joint use of IPRs (IPR bundles) is strongly correlated with industrial sector and firm size. Firms utilizing IPR bundles exhibit significantly greater economic performance than those relying on single IPR types, highlighting the complementarity between different IPRs. The study advances understanding of the IPR-firm performance link and emphasizes the importance of utilizing diverse intellectual property mechanisms to enhance competitive advantage.
