This study investigated the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission during an experimental indoor mass gathering event under three different hygiene practices. Results show that the mean number of direct contacts per visitor was nine, significantly reducible with appropriate hygiene. Ventilation system quality significantly impacted aerosol exposure; a poorly performing system increased exposure tenfold. Overall infection burden heavily depends on ventilation and hygiene; with effective ventilation and hygiene, indoor mass gatherings have minimal impact on epidemic spread.
