This study uses photo-elicitation (PE) interviews to explore how contemporary Chinese lesbians construct and express their identities. It reveals the diverse and creative ways individuals navigate traditional family values, gender norms, and evolving social attitudes. A new "Visual Narratives of Identity" (VNI) framework is introduced, bridging academic research with lived experiences. The findings highlight the complex strategies used to manage social expectations while maintaining personal authenticity, enriching visual culture studies and advocating for methodological diversity in understanding Chinese lesbian subcultures.
