Abstract
This study investigated the association between the COVID-19 pandemic and hospital admissions for alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) and pancreatitis in Western Sydney. Data from four public hospitals were analyzed, comparing admissions from 2018-2019 (pre-pandemic) to 2020-2021 (pandemic). A significant increase in ALD admissions (168 to 224) was observed during the pandemic period, while pancreatitis admissions showed a less pronounced increase. The study suggests that the pandemic and associated lockdowns may have contributed to increased alcohol misuse and subsequent hospitalizations.
