The impact of intergenerational support on multidimensional poverty in old age: empirical analysis based on 2018 CLHLS data

This article investigates the effects of different intergenerational support provided by children on multidimensional poverty among the elderly in China, using data from the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS). The study employs a logit regression model and a moderating effect model to analyze the impact of financial, caregiving, and emotional support on various dimensions of poverty. Findings reveal that multidimensional poverty among the elderly is severe, evolving from material to spiritual poverty. While financial and caregiving support show limited effectiveness, emotional support plays a crucial role in alleviating economic, health, spiritual, and overall multidimensional poverty. Social security programs significantly moderate the relationship between intergenerational support and multidimensional poverty.
