Abstract
This study investigates the effects of empathy and perspective-taking instructions on individuals with opposing views on immigration. The results indicate that proponents of immigration, when given such instructions, showed increased motivation to engage in empathy and perspective-taking, and experienced decreased positive and negative emotions under perspective-taking instructions. Conversely, opponents of immigration showed increased perception of the other's competitiveness under perspective-taking instructions. These findings highlight the importance of considering individual viewpoints when designing interventions for conflict resolution in immigration-related debates.
