Abstract
This paper analyzes the role of ideology critique within Jürgen Habermas' Critical Theory. It offers a reinterpretation of the colonization of the lifeworld thesis, arguing it can be understood as a case of ideology critique. The paper first maps different forms of social critique, focusing on ideology critique. Second, it outlines Habermas' diagnosis of lifeworld colonization, differentiating between critique as discursive redemption of validity claims and critique as an observer's social diagnosis. Finally, it connects these levels of critique with the analysis of ideology critique, concluding that the observer's social diagnosis constitutes a form of ideology critique.
