This paper explores the development of social identities in transnational marriages between international students in China and Chinese nationals. Data from participant observation and in-depth interviews with 15 heterosexual couples suggests these marriages foster deeper understanding of individual and partner identities through expanded social networks. Identity construction increases tolerance, mutual understanding, and flexible family relationships, resulting in positive societal adjustments.
