Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between SME competitiveness and employment creation, with SME growth as a mediator. Using a cross-sectional survey of 93 Nigerian SMEs, structural equation modeling revealed that product innovation and product differentiation significantly enhance employment generation by boosting SME growth. SME growth mediates the relationship between competitiveness (product differentiation, innovation, and imitation) and employment generation. The study contributes theoretically by using a firm's activity-based capabilities to demonstrate competitiveness.
