Abstract
This paper investigates the role of temperature variability in future intensification of heat extremes. The authors show that daily temperature variability is a key factor in understanding global patterns of change in the frequency and severity of heat extremes. Variability accounts for at least half of the highly differential regional sensitivities and may outweigh background warming. These findings offer crucial insights for improving climate model predictions.
