Abstract
This study quantifies protective antigen (PA) production and degradation by Bacillus anthracis using mathematical modeling and Bayesian statistical techniques. New experimental data, along with two published datasets, were used to calibrate a delay differential equation (DDE) model. The model distinguishes between natural PA decay and protease-mediated decay, showing promising consistency between datasets for most parameter estimates. This quantitative characterization of PA dynamics contributes to future mechanistic models of anthrax infection, incorporating toxin dynamics, immune response, and anti-toxin treatments.
