This retrospective cohort study (n=1,175,277 SARS-CoV-2 infected patients) investigated the persistent risk of long-term health consequences following SARS-CoV-2 infection and the protective effects of COVID-19 vaccination. Results showed a progressive reduction in all-cause mortality risk over one year post-infection compared to controls. Complete vaccination or booster doses significantly lowered the risk of major cardiovascular diseases and all-cause mortality 30-90 days post-infection. The risk remained significantly higher in unvaccinated and incompletely vaccinated individuals for up to a year. This real-world evidence supports the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines in mitigating long-term health risks associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
