Abstract
This article examines the interplay between setting and character development in Quiara Alegría Hudes's metatheatrical drama *Water by the Spoonful*. The play features diasporic characters from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds interacting within three intersecting spaces: the real world, virtual cyberspace, and a metaphysical space. The study analyzes how these spaces shape the characters' identities and responses to socio-cultural issues, exploring themes of family, diaspora, war trauma, loneliness, nostalgia, and homesickness.
