Abstract
This work experimentally investigates the effect of an obstacle placed above the exit of a silo on clog formation during granular material discharge. The study demonstrates that the obstacle reduces clog formation through two mechanisms: alteration of kinematic properties near the outlet, preventing arch stabilization; and introduction of anisotropy in the contact fabric tensor, significant in quasi-static regimes. A single formulation encompassing both mechanisms is proposed.
